The IFA European Region Conference held between 5 – 7 July, provided a unique opportunity to engage on topical and important international tax issues and connect with old and new tax friends. The delegates were welcomed in the Netherlands’ vibrant capital of Amsterdam, for the conference titled ‘Countering tax avoidance in the European Union and beyond’; an important platform for professional exchange and networking.

The International Fiscal Association, established in 1938 in the Netherlands, is the only non-governmental and non-sectoral international organisation dealing with fiscal matters.

IFA is a neutral, independent, non-lobby organisation and as such the only global network of its kind. As a non-profit organisation, IFA provides a neutral and independent platform where representatives of all professions and interests can meet and discuss international tax issues at the highest level.

Describing her experience over the course of the conference Ms Caruana said, “This year the IFA European Region Conference was held between 5-7 July 2023 in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. In these two and a half days there were discussions on the latest developments related to tax avoidance in the European Union and the abuse of law.

In the evening we also had the opportunity to go on a boat trip on the famous Amsterdam canal, where we could appreciate Amsterdam’s charms from a different perspective. This event also helped me to personally connect with other tax professionals, as well as the opportunity to share different experiences on both a professional and personal level.
